2011 Sale results
The Angus Alliance Sale partners, Johan Steyn of Bothaville, Loutjie Campher of Ventersdorp and Louren Campher of Koster put up a formidable offering of 30 red and black Angus bulls for this sale (for both stud and commercial use) as well as 50 top quality females.Over 50 buyers registered for the sale and selected animals were in high demand.
The top price of R90 000 for a red Angus bull was paid for Vansia Diablo (Heavenly x Lonestar 01), a stud bull in his own right who had represented the breed at the Pretoria show 2010, leissentraalFarmers Weekly special performance test class. He holds a Gold Merit Phase C certificate and was the 2011 Vryburg Junior Champion Angus bull. He was bought by new breeders Hentie and NJ Kruger of Winburg.
Top price of R60 000 for a Black Angus bull was paid for Roelou Hot Harry, a red gene carrier (Woodview Greenhorn x SAF Fame) by Harrey Burger of Schweizer Reneke. The bull was bred by Louren Campher of Koster.
The average price for bulls was R34 586. Noteworthy was the fact that the 2011 reserve Junior Champion bull at Vryburg, Vanesia Big Easy, went to the Roechama Stud at Hertzogville (R55 000) whilst another excellent bull boasting top breeding values (Vansia JMS09 476) went to commercial breeder Hendrick Botha of Marquard for R52 000. Other averages were
- Pregnant cows R20 300 with highest price of R24 000
- Cows with calves R23 375 with top price of R45 000
- Pregnant heifers averaged R19 000 with top price of R26 000
- Open heifers averaged R11 865 with top price of R25 000
The top price of R45 000 was paid for Loumotta Jane 5 who had a Loumotta TJ bull calf at foot. She was bought by Mr Mark Hattingh.
Second highest price was R33 000 paid for Vansia Sherry 216 bought by Klasie Loubser of Vredenburg, Western Cape.
Another interesting fact is that commercial beef producers identified and paid for top quality, top performance bulls (R60000 for a Black Angus by Harry Burger and R52000 for a red Angus by Hendrick Botha).
